Olivier Beaulieu

Olivier Beaulieu is a student in the Department of History at the Université du Québec à Montréal. Supervised by Magda Fahrni (UQAM) and Clarence Hatton Proulx (UdeM), his research focuses on working-class suburbs in post-World War II Quebec. Unlike pre-war suburbs, post-war suburbs are generally perceived as socially homogeneous entities rooted in individualistic and conservative values, characterized by a uniform and standardized built environment. By examining the suburbanization process of Pointe-aux-Trembles (1912-1982), located in the east end of the Island of Montreal, Olivier hopes to nuance this perspective and thereby deepen our understanding of the diverse, working-class nature of post-war suburbs. His previous master’s research focused on upward and downward social mobility in the Quebec of the 19th and 20th centuries.
