Denyse Baillargeon

Denyse Baillargeon is professor emeritus in Université de Montréal’s history department, where she taught from 1992 (as substitute professor) until her retirement in December 2018. Specialised in women, childhood and health history, she is the author of several books including Repenser la nation, Histoire du suffrage féminin au Québec (Montreal: Remue-ménage, 2019), published in English under the title To be Equals in our Own CountryWomen and the Vote in Quebec (Vancouver: UBC Press, 2019), and Brève histoire des femmes au Québec (Montreal: Boréal, 2012), also published in English under the title A Brief History of Women in Quebec (Waterloo, WLUP, 2014). Recipient of several awards (Prix du livre politique de la présidence de l’Assemblée nationale du Québec (2020) ; Clio-Québec Prize from the Canadian Historical Association (2005), Lionel-Groulx-Fondation Yves Saint-Germain Prize (2005) from the Institut d’histoire de l’Amérique française, Jean-Charles-Falardeau Prize (2006) from the Canadian Federation for the Humanities and Social Sciences, and the Hilda-Neatby Prize (2019 and 1998) from the Canadian Committee for Women’s History), she is currently working on the history of philanthropy at the CHU Sainte-Justine and, with her colleague Josette Brun of Université Laval, on the representations of feminism on Radio-Canada’s television program Femme d’aujourd’hui, aired between 1966 and 1982.
